The Best Fresh Foundation is an initiative set up by all the companies within the Best Fresh Group. We are a group of companies that are experts in producing, packing, marketing and distributing fresh fruit and vegetables all year round. Together, we help charities in the Netherlands.

In 2011 that charity is the Queen Wilhelmina Cancer Foundation (KWF). On 4 September we participated in the Ride for the Roses cycling tour in Aalsmeer. This was the 14th Ride for the Roses and the tour was in aid of the fight against cancer. Ready to ride?

Report on Ride for the Roses 4 September 2011

On Sunday 4 September, some 20 cyclists from the Best Fresh Group took part in the Ride for the Roses tour. The team that finished the 100km tour consisted of a mixture of Best Fresh Group personnel and business relations.
By taking part in the ride, through the Best Fresh foundation, the Best Fresh Group was supporting the Queen Wilhelmina Cancer Foundation in its research. Participating is also a gesture towards those fighting against cancer themselves and in memory of those who have died of this wasting disease.

After being welcomed at Helmann Perishables Logistics in Hoofdorp the group made its way to the start at the Aalsmeer flower auction. The weather forecast was not too hopeful, but in the end it was wonderful cycling weather with just a brief shower. After the official starting shot by Floor van Leeuwen (KWF) and Arne Weverling the 6,000 cyclists set off, taking their time to complete the 100km ride. We passed through villages such as Bennebroek, Heemstede and Nieuw Vennep. After 4 ½ hours in the saddle, on arrival at the flower auction all the cyclists were given a red rose. The total amount raised by the Ride for the Roses was €1,517,535.27. The proceeds will go towards research into the effects of the treatment of Hodgkin Lymphoma, a form of lymph gland cancer. Next year, the Ride for the Roses will be coming to Westland and the Best Fresh Foundation will certainly be there again.
